On next row (rs) work as follows: K1, *YO, Sl1, K1, Psso*, repeat from * to * until last stitch, K1. Next row, purl across all stitches. Cast off very loosely (use a larger size needle for binding off, to ensure a loose edge).

Edging

Cast on 13 stitches, and commence edge pattern. As you knit the edging, pick 1 stitch up from shawl edge, and knit it together with the last stitch of the edging on wrong side rows, and first stitch of the edging on right side rows. This attaches the edging to the shawl as you knit it. Alternatively, you can knit the edging and sew it onto the shawl after it's knitted.

Row 1:(ws) K2, P9, K2
Row 2:K7, YO, Sl1, K1, Psso, YO, K4
Row 3:(and every wrong side row) K2, P to last 2 stitches, K2
Row 4:K6, *YO, Sl1, K1, Psso*, repeat from * to * 2 times, YO, K4
Row 6:K5, *YO, Sl1, K1, Psso*, repeat from * to * 3 times, YO, K4

Row 12:K4, *YO, Sl1, K1, Psso*, repeat from * to * 5 times,K2tog, K2
Row 14:K5, *YO, Sl1, K1, Psso*, repeat from * to * 4 times, K2tog, K2
Row 16:K6, *YO, Sl1, K1, Psso*, repeat from * to * 3 times, K2tog, K2
Row 18:K7, *YO, Sl1, K1, Psso*, repeat from * to * 2 times, K2tog, K2
Row 20:K8, YO, Sl1, K1, Psso, K2tog, K2

Repeat these 20 rows until you reach the bottom point of the shawl. Leave stitches on waste thread, and begin other side edging, reversing the directions. When you reach the bottom point, graft the stitches together to form the point.

This stole was based on Eunny Jang's Print O' the Wave design, and modified with a razor shell border by Val Campion. Val has kindly transcribed the pattern for us, and our thanks go to her and Eunny.

Materials:
100g laceweight yarn; 4mm knitting needles

Abbreviations:

k2tog - knit 2 together;
k2togb - knit 2 together through back of loop

Instructions:

Cast on 90 stitches using a lace cast on (put needle into the loop of last stitch before making the next).

Row 1:
k2, yo, k2, sktpo, k2, yo, k2, p2.
k3, k2tog, k2, yo, k2tog, [yo, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, k2, k2togb, k3, k2tog, k2, yo, k2tog] x 3, yo, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, k2togb, k2
p2, k2, yo, k2, sktpo, k2, yo, k2.

Then: - k1, k2tog, yo, k3, yo, k2togb, [yo, k2togb, yo, k2, k2togb, k1, k2tog, k2, yo, k3, yo, k2togb] x 3, yo, k2togb, yo, k2, k2togb, k2
Italics.

Row 11:
Italics
Then: - k2tog, yo, k5, yo, [k2togb, yo, k2togb, yo, k2, sktpo, k2, yo, k5, yo] x 3, k2togb, yo, k2togb, yo, k2, k2togb, k1

Repeat 34 times or until stole is the required length.

Cast off:
k2, *transfer the 2 stitches back to holding needle and k2togb, k1,*. Repeat from * to * until all stitches have been cast off. This gives a much looser edge than a conventional cast-off.

Finishing: Soak in warm water and block.

socks knitted in Passionate

This is an easy sock pattern, with a simple slip stitch rib design that effectively showcases variegated yarn. The socks knit up quickly, and are perfect for beginners. The socks pictured are knitted in our pure cashmere sock yarn.

Materials:
100g sock yarn, 4 x 2.75mm (US 2) needles.

Gauge:
26 stitches & 42 rows, measured over 10cm, in stocking stitch. (This knits up as a fairly loose fitting sock, especially if you choose the pure cashmere yarn. If you prefer a snugger fitting sock, you may want to drop down a needle size.)

Instructions:

Cast on 60 stitches and divide between 3 needles. Commence pattern in the round, being careful not to twist stitches on first round:

Round 1: K3, P3, repeat.
Round 2: K3, P3, repeat.
Round 3: K3, P3, repeat.
Round 4: Slip1, K1, yfwd, K1, Psso, P3, repeat.

Continue in pattern for 7 inches.

Divide for the Heel:
Divide the stitches, leaving half for the heel, and setting the other half temporarily on hold for the instep. Continue in stocking stitch for 30 rows, slipping the first stitch in each row. Finish with a purl row.

Shape the Heel:
Row 1: K17, Sl1, K1, Psso, K1 (turn)
Row 2: Slip 1, P5, P2tog, P1 (turn)
Row 3: Slip1, knit across to gap, Slip1 before gap, K1, Psso, K1 (turn)
Row 4: Slip 1, P to gap, P2tog, P1 (turn)

Repeat until all the heel stitches have been used.

Gusset:
Pick up 15 stitches along the right side of the heel; knit across the 30 stitches of the instep. Pick up 15 stitches along the left side of the heel. Arrange the stitches on 3 needles as follows.

Needle 1: 24 stitches (left of centre heel)
Needle 2: 30 instep stitches
Needle 3: 24 stitches (right of centre heel)

Row 1: Knit the stitches on needles 1 & 3, and work the instep stitches on needle 2 in pattern.
Row 2: Knit the stitches on needle 1 up to the last 3 stitches, then K2tog, K1. Work all the stitches on needle 2 in pattern. On needle 3, K1, Sl1, K1, Psso, then knit the remaining stitches on the needle.

Repeat these 2 rows, until you have 60 stitches again. Work until the sock is 2/12" less than the desired length

Shape the Toe:
Knit the stitches on needle 1 up to the last 3 stitches, then K2tog, K1. On needle 2, K1, S1, K1, Psso, knit up to the last 3 stitches then K2tog, K1. On needle 3, K1, S1, K1, Psso, then knit the remaining stitches. Knit one round plain.
